This was our preliminary work on our Music Video:
Cobra Starship- You Make Me Feel
This is the song that our group has decided to use for our music video. We hope to incorporate some of the ideas from the other music videos, Ke$ha- Take It Off and Robyn- Cobrastyle, to the music of Cobra Starship- You Make Me Feel. We want to have a lot of fun with it, mixing mediums like chalk and paint, as well as movement through dance and parkour. We hope to create a music video that is full of energy and interest.
Here is layout of how our daily plans went throughout this project:
Thurs. Sept. 29: Class was cancelled today but our group met to plan a location to do our shoot. First thing we wanted to keep in mind was that we are using paint and chalk which could be difficult to clean up so we need an area that might not need everything cleaned or that we can build a set inside. After an afternoon of searching we finally found our location.
Tues. Oct. 4: We reviewed how to work with green screen and edit the videos. We used the rest of class time to fine-tune our storyboard.
Thurs. Oct. 6: Our group got permission from Min to prepare the space we plan to shoot during class. So during our class time we went to the pool area and swept, pre-planning where we wanted our dancers and shots.
Mon. Oct. 10: Our shoot was scheduled today. A few people responded to our Facebook group about when and where we were shooting. Since no one showed up we shot preliminary pans of the surrounding areas to possibly use as intro shots or B-roll. We contacted our subjects to reschedule for Friday.
Thurs. Oct. 13: There was a work day in class. Since no one showed up to our shoot we did not have much footage to work from. We uploaded what we had and planned out our intro to our song.
Fri. Oct. 14: Taryn arrived early on location and set up all the balloons filled with paint with the help of her sister who blew up the balloons once the paint was inside. We had contact with the parkour group and they were supposed to be on their way. When plans fell through, the one contact didnt want to be the only person in our video so we had no other resources but ourselves. Luckily Alyssa came prepared to be in the shot so we filmed her and went with our plans. We had a blast, I dont think I have laughed this hard.
Tues. Oct. 18: Our first work day with some footage to put in the video. We started log-and-capturing our clips from all three cameras on site. The first one done was Taryn's so we started to work with her clips. FCP made us render every clip every time we moved it in the sequence. After much confusion we ended up being on our way with those clips. When our class finally came to an end, we had all of our footage uploaded. Later that evening Taryn came in to work on the video, but we could not find the clips from the other two cameras.
Wed. Oct. 19: During lab hours we came in to work on editing the video and realized that our clips from the other two cameras had not been saved due to not setting our capture scratch when we uploaded. So we worked with what we had from the one of our three cameras. After working from 5:30-9:30 diligently we still hadn't quite finished up everything and fine tuned it how we would have liked but we were out of time.
Thurs. Oct. 20: Today we came in early to polish up what we had laid out and export and upload to YouTube. We presented our video in class. We had a lot of fun putting this piece together and even though it didn't quite go as planned... at all... I feel like it is still a piece to be proud of. However, YouTube blocked our video because of copyright laws set up by WMG.
Artist Statement
Here is layout of how our daily plans went throughout this project:
For our Music Video Project, I was instantly inspired by the use of color and media in Robyn's "Cobrastyle" music video. I believe her use of brightly colored chalk and paint against a blank white background made the viewer focus on movement and media. I wanted to use an interpretation of this for the Music Video Project. Our group was all on the same page and came up with lots of fun ideas of how we could use color and art installations in our shots. Although we originally had hopes of parkour and a dance routine, because of scheduling conflicts and vacations we had to change our ideas and work with what was available. We decided to shoot on location at an old abandoned hotel. We used the pool area that had lots of natural light for our shots. We all shot different angles, while Alyssa kindly was our main singer. However, while uploading we had some issues with the other two cameras with the media not saving to the computers. So in the end all we had was my limited footage. Cori did an amazing job coming up with editing ideas and making great use of the footage we had available. For our final video I believe we had a great product that expressed the fun and active emotions we wanted to portray. However, I believe if we also had the use of the other footage our video would be ten times better with multiple angles and more interest. Overall, I enjoyed this project and I believe our team worked well together with developing ideas and taking on responsibilities.
For the Final
For our Final Video Project we decided to re-edit our Music Video, You Make Me Feel- by Cobra Starship. Our intent was to add in more jump cuts, angles, and have an overall cleaner edit of the video. Our focus for this music video has stayed the same since the beginning and our priority was to have fun, create an upbeat music video, and explore the use of live instillation art in a video setting. I believe our editing has improved tremendously and only emphasizes what we wanted to portray. I hope you enjoy our final version of You Make Me Feel:
